Col de l’Iseran

Col de l’Iseran is one of the best driving roads in the world and is the highest paved road in the Alps. Col de l’Iseran has a peak elevation of 2,764m and is located in the region of Savoie in France. It’s a prominent pass that has been featured in the Tour de France a number of times. This road is only open in the summer months and is inaccessible in winter due to the snow. The weather can be quite challenging at the high altitude making it difficult to get a clear day. I was fortunate during my visit and had great weather. However the temperature was quite cold at -2°C at the top of the pass and there was light snow which created a spectacular atmosphere. The completely sealed road is wide with safe width for passing oncoming vehicles. There can be considerable traffic on this pass as it is a popular tourist destination. During my visit on a weekday, there was minimal traffic and the pass was mostly clear. It’s a very enjoyable drive with great hairpins and sweeping bends. The scenery surrounding the pass is amazing which makes it a memorable experience.  This is a pass which should not be missed. An absolute amazing drive!
